In the summer we have two major activites for children:
Children ages 8-12 in our After-School Program are eligible to go to a Christian camp of the Episcopal Church, Camp Weed, in Live Oak, Florida. Good behavior qualifies them to go to our four-day session at this sleep-away camp with exciting activities including archery, rock wall climbing, kayaking, swimming, arts & crafts, and a Vacation Bible School format program. We provide all items for the campers including clothes, linens, and hygiene items.
In the summer we offer a Reading Academy so the children can brush up their reading skills to prepare them to go back to school in August. This year's Reading Academy theme is "Splish! Splash! All About Water" where they will learn how important water is in in God's creation and our need to be good stewards of it. They will read and learn about the water cycle, weather and water, our Florida aquifers, and conservation and pollution. We will also go on field trips, do arts & crafts, play water games, and have fun learning about this precious resource. The 2017 Reading Academy is scheduled for June 19-23. Please contact Elizabeth Crowe at firstname.lastname@example.org to volunteer. We need volunteers for everything from serving lunch to staffing activity centers (reading, games, arts & crafts, field trips, etc.). You can make a difference in the life of a child by giving a few hours of your time, love, and energy!
